LGBTQ+ Informed Care

Therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals can address the unique challenges and experiences that are specific to our community. Therapy for LGBTQ+ folx is designed to be affirming and supportive, recognizing the diverse identities and experiences within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Some primary issues that can be explored in LGBTQ+ informed care are:

Coming Out: Support for individuals navigating the process of coming out, including dealing with fears, anxieties, and/or possible rejection from loved ones can be addressed in therapy. You don’t need to be “out” to attend to this layer of your identity in treatment!

Identity Exploration: Exploration of oneself and developing insight into your own sexual orientation and/or gender identity can be a terrific use of psychotherapy.

Relationships: Psychotherapeutic support to attend to oftentimes complicated relationship dynamics including same-sex relationships or relationships involving diverse gender identities, as well as non-monogamous and/or polyamorous relationships is a helpful feature of queer-informed care

Discrimination and Minority Stress: Building coping strategies related to discrimination, microaggressions, and societal stigma, and developing confidence/self-esteem

Family Dynamics: Psychotherapy can help in navigating family dynamics and relationships, including dealing with rejection or lack of support from family members.

General Mental Health Concerns: Addressing common mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or physical health concerns experienced by the LGBTQ+ community can be addressed and unpacked in psychotherapy
